Three years later, here we are again! Our last family trip to Hawaii was a blast so we figured we would do it again. Unfortunately, we waited until after we left California to fly back to Hawaii but the extra 2,500 miles each way actually went by pretty quickly. The kids were great on the near 24 hour day of travel (Cars and Frozen helped push through some of the layovers) and we all arrived (plus one grandma) without losing a bag or our minds.
After a good night’s rest, it was off to the main event: Carolyn and Ben’s wedding. Perfect weather, great food, plenty of drinks, and a fantastic backdrop. The following day was spent revisiting some of the great hiking spots we found a few years ago. This time around, William was foot mobile instead of stuck inside mom’s belly. I’d like to think that he found it much more enjoyable this time around. Dinner was another spectacular meal on DT Fleming Beach Park.
Can’t go to Maui without seeing the Road To Hana! This time was no exception; we took to the road and stopped at the favorites (Honomanu Bay County Beach Park and Waianapanapa State Park) making sure to skip the ring stealing waterfalls of Puaa Kaa. We sampled more of the treats being sold on the side of the road and were not disapointed once (although turns out some are better at picking out banana bread than others). The unanimous favorite this year was the Bamboo Forest and the kids were fantastic on the hike. Everyone made it to the top on their own steam.
We closed out the trip with a luau which was a big hit with the kids and had enough beer and pork to satisfy the adults. After a week it was time to break the streak of eating a bowl of poke at least once a day and head back to VA. Until next time…
