14 candles on the cake

Ok, ok…I know it’s September and Sophia’s birthday was in April, but here I am. By and large, this site is our own digital journal – I know only a few family members keep up with our little corner of the internet – but I’d like to think that the kids will look back fondly on the memories we’ve compiled here over the years. So without further adieu…

Sophia is 14! I still haven’t wrapped my head around the fact that our sweet, sensitive, prima ballerina is another year older. Time certainly didn’t slow down last year despite my wishes. Sophia had another great year cruising through middle school and managing to keep straight A’s while balancing a busy dance schedule. Dance continues to be her happy place! Last summer we moved back to Stafford which meant switching schools and dance studios again. The change brought her back to her old studio, but change is still change. She embraced all of these ups and downs with such grace and hearing these sentiments echoed by teachers makes me so proud!

Birthday celebrations looked a bit different this year since Sophia’s birthday was on a Sunday (which is typically a long rehearsal day for her) and Dad was out of town. Despite the weird schedule there was no shortage of yummy food, gifts, and of course cake to mark the day. If there had to be an upside of Dad missing the official day, it’s that we got to do it all over again when he returned…and if you ask nicely Mom will even make beef wellington.

A quick flip through last year’s scrapbook of Sophia…

Here’s to another year of learning, growing and watching you continue to be the amazing young lady we know you are. Love you always, Twinkle Toes!
