I realize Will is now closer to four than three (it’s May 2016 as I write this,) but I couldn’t let myself miss another birthday. When I look through the archives of the good ‘ol website I still regret I didn’t document Sophia’s second birthday. So without further ado…
We spent Will’s 3rd birthday like we spent many days this summer, at our neighborhood pool. The kids thoroughly enjoy the water! While Sophia is all about learning to swim, Will is happy hanging out in the shallow end squirting people with water. Dad was at work for most of Will’s birthday but we had a small celebration when he returned complete with chocolate peanut butter cake and candles. Lucky for us, our kids consider it a successful birthday celebration if there are cake and candles so we get off pretty easy. I do think Will is due for a true birthday party next year though (sorry, Dad).
And now is the time I get all sappy on you. Will is definitely still my baby but he reminds me more each day that he’s becoming such a big kid. He loves keeping up with big sister and any big kid friends. He is a genuinely happy kid and likes to makes friends everywhere he goes, as was evidenced by the homeless man he hugged at a park in Birmingham. He knows he is cute which means trouble with a capital T for me. It makes it pretty hard for mommy to take her sweet boy seriously when he squints his baby blue eyes at her.
This year brought a lot of changes for all of us. Now more than ever Will reminds me to take time to enjoy the small things like snuggles (even if they are from a sweaty toddler who should nap in his bed), time to sit and read books (even if we’ve read them countless times,) and little chefs in the kitchen (even if they make the simplest tasks exponentially more complicated). I’m so grateful for this little guy. I can’t wait to see what’s in store for us in the year ahead. I’m sure he’ll keep us on our toes. Happy 3rd Birthday, William!
