There a good dozen parks in Oregon and NorCal that make up what folks collectively refer to as “the Redwoods” including Del Norte Coast Redwoods State Park, Prairie Creek Redwoods State Park, Redwoods State Park, Redwoods National Park, Humbolt Redwoods State Park… the list goes on. We had always planned on visiting “the Redwoods” as part of the Grand August Adventure and while researching options, we decided one of the must-do stops was the Tall Trees Trail in Redwood National Park. Luck struck and we were able to draw one of the limited permits for the trail during one of the brief periods of cell phone service in the beginning our road trip!
It is pretty hard to put into words just how massive some of the old growth redwoods are. To stand next to a 300+ foot tree is just wild and it’s nearly impossible to capture the scale in a picture. Heck, it’s really tough just to take a picture of a 350 foot tree. We found the only real way we could do it was a panoramic picture taken vertically instead of horizontally.
Suffice to say we had a blast walking around like ants at the feet of 800-1,500 year old giants. Tomorrow the adventure continues on the coast.
