What’s better than one ski trip? Two. Duh. We threw a couple of date blocks on the calendar earlier in the year and this one didn’t end up working out for a family trip… but it still worked out for a quick Dad trip back to the slopes.
This time it was to Kirkwood which is a few hours north of Mammoth but it’s an easy drive especially when you stop at Hot Creek to try your luck at some winter trout fishing. It doesn’t get much prettier than a winding river with snow capped Sierras in the background. Kirkwood is hands down the best terrain in the Tahoe area (in my opinion) and I made the best of not having young, learning Wiktors in trail. On the first day alone I think I wound up skiing around 30k vertical feet and spent a good chunk of time in the chutes running down Wagon Wheel Bowl.
Here’s to another trip (or two!) before everything melts.
