Back to Pensacola

The Wiktors have been making the rounds the last few weeks! Right after we returned from Maui, the next day in fact, Phil left for Pensacola where he spent the next month for work. Most of his 9-5 was spent at class, but evenings and weekends were fair game. The first few weekends Phil got to enjoy a bachelor lifestyle while Sophia and I were back in SoCal, but at the end of May Sophia and I headed south to join Phil for the last two weeks of his trip.

Although visiting Phil was reason numero uno for Sophia and I making the trip, I had another pretty big reason for wanting to go to Florida. One of my oldest and dearest friends lives nearby AND she happens to be pregnant as well and just 4 weeks ahead of me. I can’t wait for our babies to be the best of friends! So our first weekend in Florida was spent in Shalimar with Syd and her husband, Pete. Phil and Pete went on their own adventure Friday and Saturday spending the night and day on Pete’s pontoon for Billy Bowlegs (essentially, the Gulf Coasts’ version of Mardi Gras on water). The two pregnant ladies chose to pass and relaxed on land. Sunday was a baby shower for Sydney. It was great to visit with her and share in some of the celebrations for baby Lennox.

Unfortunately, the weather put a damper on our next weekend. Pensacola got 15 inches of rain over the weekend! We braved the elements on Saturday to go to the grocery store and experienced some flash flooding along the way so decided the rest of the day would be best spent inside. Sunday was more rain, but not quite as bad so we had a family outing to Barnes & Noble so Sophia could run around some. It wasn’t exactly the sunny Florida weekend we hoped to have, but we were glad to spend it together.

While Phil was at class during the week Sophia and I hung around the condo and spent some afternoons at the pool. We got creative with our playtime activities (Mom’s makeup bag really is fun). Once Phil got home from class we enjoyed cooking at the condo or going to some of our old favorite restaurants. Wherever we were, Sophia had fun exploring since she is VERY mobile now.

It was great to revisit the “home,” where Phil and I spent our first two years as The Wiktors, but by mid-June we were all ready to be back in Oceanside. Now that we’re back, home projects have kicked into high gear so stay tuned for more updates…and pictures of our favorite blonde babe!
