Rockin’ around the Christmas tree

Ok, so there was no dancing and it didn’t look anything like the scene out of my favorite Christmas movie, but we certainly had a great time celebrating the holiday season with a few of our friends at the White House Christmas Party. It was a bit of a sensory overload taking everything in during…

What do you do on a rainy fall day in VA?

Head to Hollin Farms of course! You can’t have fall pass in VA without heading to apple country and spending an afternoon filling up a few bags, eating an apple cider doughnut, and enjoying a tasty beverage. Since we aren’t rule breakers and it can’t be fall without apples…out came the boots and raincoats and…

Off to the beach!

On the top of the kids’ to do list each summer is a trip to the beach. Mom did not disappoint and we were able to squeeze in two quick trips to the beach this summer. First, we made a quick trip to Virginia Beach and Cape Charles. While the kids had fun splashing around…

A day in the life of March

March has been a relatively quiet month around the house. Well, let me rephrase that… March has been a month around the house. Home as a family? Mostly. Quiet? Never. The hustle and bustle of life never can be avoided but sometimes you remember to take a break from it all and smile about the…

Hittin’ the Slopes!

As an avid skier, nothing gets me more excited than when the snow starts coming down. Sadly, I’ve been an observer and not a participant due to the hustle and bustle that is life. It’s rare that I get a chance to get out and ski these days and I have been longing for a…

Low Water Bridge

While the whole family (including Lucy) would enjoy one weekend a month in a tent with a cup of coffee and a view, sadly it has only been a once or twice a year event. The Virginia heat and humidity subsided just in time for a weekend free of social and work obligations. The perfect…

We Remember

At the suggestion of Meredith, we jumped on the train and went to Arlington National Cemetery for the day. Despite it raining a fair amount, we were able to pay our respects and help lay roses on the final resting place of many. Thank you to all who paid the ultimate sacrifice. We remember.

Grandparents are the best!

A few of our favorite folks went through the woods and over the river to the grand-kids’ house this month. The gang had a great time seeing some of the sites (sans dad because he was at work… again…) the DC area has to offer. Everyone enjoyed the hiking trails and the raging river up…

We’ve got company!

Weekends with visitors are among our favorites. It’s not that we don’t enjoy our time together but it is always great having extra smiles and laughs in the house. Out-of-towners are also a good excuse to go see the sites of DC. Tourists aren’t the only ones who should enjoy them right? With some coming…

In Bloom (Part 3)

Well, DC is back in bloom again. There’s always some resistance from the scrooge in the family to go check out the cherry blossoms but eventually (and thankfully) Meredith wins me over. This year marks our third straight showing at the Tidal Basin for the big cherry blossom bloom. This year we timed it right…
