Crawfish as big as your head!

Perhaps the spark was the discovery of some local California Mudbugs on an area hike last month. Perhaps it was just long overdue. Whatever the reason, plans finally solidified this month and we managed to have an epic crawfish boil right here in sunny San Diego. I’m not one to promote things so count this…

Just another May?

Hard to keep things normal these days but we’ve still managed to put smiles on the faces of those we love. The first portion of the month was spent at home where we still have the luxury of a fine cup of coffee or a craft cocktail when we need it. The kids have fared…

It’s a New Year!

2020 is off to a happy start. Making new traditions (we’ll see if homemade ramen on the 1st can stick), new beers (Hoppy New APA- thanks Soph), new batches of clear ice for new cocktails, and those other small new things on the truck. Can’t wait to see what else this year has in store.

No water in Fish Creek

Don’t go looking for water in Fish Creek Wash, just go looking for a good time. The guys took a long overdue overnight adventure to the desert and it was a blast. Tires were aired down, fires were lit, bourbon was drank, and we squeezed in a hike and some In-n-Out on the way home….

A nod to November

Truth – I debated far to long over the tile of this post. Also, November is nearly three months behind us. Phil prides himself on his punctuality, but we can’t seem to adhere to the same level of promptness with our posts these days. Saying we were busy always seems like such a cop out,…

A New Legend

Out with the old and in with the new. After a near six month search, I found a replacement for old blue. A new-to-me LX 470 joined the garage family today. It’s not easy finding 100 Series Land Cruisers (or Lexus LX 470) that have the right mix of miles, features, maintenance records, and price…

The Sun Sets on San Diego

Well, all good things must come to an end. The house went on the market and then the house was sold. Bags were packed, one last group of friends came to visit, and 3/4’s of the Wiktors said goodbye to the last San Diego sunset they’ll see for a while. After six years of fun…

SoCal Christmas

Even after living in warmer climates the last seven years, neither Phil or I have gotten used to the idea of palm trees at Christmas time. We still much prefer cooler temperatures, freshly fallen snow and sipping eggnog by the fire. So while we didn’t see any snow or get to spend the holiday with…

Off the beaten path

November was quite the hectic month but we managed to sneak away from it all and spend a weekend crossing a couple of things off of our SoCal To-Do list. The first was certainly more exciting for Phil and the kids than Meredith as it involved an off-road adventure in the Land Cruiser. After installing…

Pumpkin Time!

It’s pumpkin time again! The Cali branch of the Wiktor family has a few traditions of their own and one of those is the annual hunt for the best pumpkin ever. 2014 wasn’t a disappointment. We made the annual trip to Peltzer Farms and we each picked out our own pumpkin. Obviously I’m biased but…
