We Remember

At the suggestion of Meredith, we jumped on the train and went to Arlington National Cemetery for the day. Despite it raining a fair amount, we were able to pay our respects and help lay roses on the final resting place of many. Thank you to all who paid the ultimate sacrifice. We remember.

Grandparents are the best!

A few of our favorite folks went through the woods and over the river to the grand-kids’ house this month. The gang had a great time seeing some of the sites (sans dad because he was at work… again…) the DC area has to offer. Everyone enjoyed the hiking trails and the raging river up…

We’ve got company!

Weekends with visitors are among our favorites. It’s not that we don’t enjoy our time together but it is always great having extra smiles and laughs in the house. Out-of-towners are also a good excuse to go see the sites of DC. Tourists aren’t the only ones who should enjoy them right? With some coming…

In Bloom (Part 3)

Well, DC is back in bloom again. There’s always some resistance from the scrooge in the family to go check out the cherry blossoms but eventually (and thankfully) Meredith wins me over. This year marks our third straight showing at the Tidal Basin for the big cherry blossom bloom. This year we timed it right…

Out and About

We’ve had a pretty mild winter which has allowed us to get out and do some exploring on the weekends. On one of Mumsie’s last visits we drove up to Maryland, just past Andrews AFB to check out Watkins Regional Park. All I knew about the park was that it had a Wizard of Oz…

Adventures in Dadland

While mom was off adventuring in FL, dad embarked on his own adventures with the kids. Maybe it was because the destinations were of interest to dad; maybe it was because dad doesn’t do so well entertaining the crazies without a bona fide project or an actual adventure. Either way, the three amigos made good…

What to do on a gray day?

The clouds are out and the kids are restless! Quick, find something to do so both parents and kids don’t lose it! It was one of those Saturdays that led us up to the Air and Space Museum near Dulles. We’ve been to the Air and Space Museum on the National Mall a few times;…

A quick excursion

Got to take advantage of the time off these days! It feels like the busy, unpredictable work schedule overlaid on top of the school schedule has wreaked havoc on our adventuring as of late. No more Tuesday afternoon trips when everyone is in school but mom and dad. Lame. Fortunately there is still some time…

Will’s Fourth Birthday

My favorite part of drafting these birthday posts is looking back at the photos of the kids over the year. It’s always a bittersweet reminder of how fast the years are flying by. The old adage, the days are long but the years are short, couldn’t seem truer. I feel like Will grew up a…

Dog days of summer

July is when the temps pick up around here and when that’s the case, we seem to find ourselves chasing the usual American escapes. A little road trip here, a little bike trip there, and as much pool time as we can find. Of course there are near-daily ice cream for the kids (and mom)…
